School Curriculum

The school curriculum aims to help our children to thrive in the society in which they are growing up, and to make a positive contribution to that society. This includes showing respect and tolerance for all the different types pf people who make up society, including those who have protected characteristics outlined in the 2010 Equality Act.

This school provides its pupils with a rich, broad and balanced curriculum which meets fully the statutory requirements of the revised National Curriculum 2014 for England and the requirement to teach Religous Education.

• The National Curriculum sets out the most important knowledge skills and understanding that every child has a right to learn.

• It is a framework given to teachers by the government, so that all school children are taught in a way that is balanced and manageable, but hard enough to challenge them.

We aim to deliver an exciting and vibrant curriculum that is thematic and taught through a book centred topic approach, providing high quality learning opportunities for all. We believe that this will inspire a love of learning and unlock the potential that lies within all of our children.

The subject content for each year group, for religious education, is based upon the LA Agreed Sylabus for Religious Education.

In addition to the National Curriculum the school provides a wide range of visits and extra-curricular opportunities plus additional activites which include dance and drama. 

Through the curriculum pupils learn the basic skills necessary to succeed in each subject and we use the curriculum to help them develop their personal and social skills.

Where children have special needs or disability we make provision for them so that they too can flourish. We aim to ensure that all children unlock their potential and achieve to the best of their abilities.

We encourage children to be keen, enthusiastic, independent learners and we give them lots of opportunities to develop their inter-personal skills by working and co operating with others. Through the curriculum we build their self-esteem and self confidence.

Each year in school builds on the previous year. We assess progress and achievement and we regularly report to parents about how well their children are doing.
